Talkeetna, the small town with a cat as mayor!

Downtown

Downtown is pretty small but super cute and a great place to just grab a coffee and enjoy this calm town.

Before Talkeetna became what it is today it was a place for gold digger after there was gold found in the Susitna River in 1892. 1915 US President Woodrow chose it as a district headquaters for the Alaska Railroad. A post office opened as well as a sawmill, trading post, cigar and donkey store and other business as well as many cabins.

Nowadays downtown is on the register of National Historic Places, with buildings dating from the early 1900s including Nagley’s General Store, Fairview Inn and the Talkeetna Roadhouse.

A magical place with nature that will make you think you dreamed the entire experience! – Kenai Fjords National Park

Kenai Fjords National Park covers an area of 669.984 acres (2,711.33km²). The park includes the Harding Icefield, one of the largest ice fields in the United States, and Exit Glacier, which you can hike and come really close to. The park got its name by the numerous fjords carved by glaciers moving down the mountains from the ice field. There are about 40 glaciers in the area.

Seward – a place to relax in and explore the Marine Life of the Kenai Peninsula

Seward has a tiny population of 2,787 and is a small town which is visited mostly by people wanting to explore Kenai National Park or Cruise ships.
The town got its name from William H. Seward, the United States Secretary of State under Abraham Lincoln and Andrew Johnson. In 1876, he fought for the U.S. purchase of Alaska which is also achieved by a negotiation with Russia.

Homer – such a calm, little fisher town.

Homer is a city located in the Kenai Peninsula – that means beautiful views and the fresh air from the water. The town is espacially known as “Halibut Fishing Capital of the World”. Homer’s nickname is “the end of the road”. There is only one road leading into Homer which is the Sterling Highway. It is 218 miles southwest of Anchorage and it is famous for its geographical landmark “the spit”.
